Rebar (Reinforcement Bar) is a steel rod that is used to strengthen concrete. It comes in various lengths and thicknesses. The ridges or bumps allow the rebar to bond well with the concrete.
On The Novus Project, we anticipate fabricating and installing over 2,750 tons or 5,499,770 pounds of rebar. That's a ton of steel!
Our first major rebar delivery is scheduled for August 15, 2022 and will be placed in the matt foundations and basement walls. The cost to transport rebar is high in relation to its value so U.S. companies produce it as close as possible to where it will be sold. Our rebar producer is Nucor Corporation based in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is the largest steel producer in the United States, the largest "mini-mill" steelmaker (i.e. it uses electric arc furnaces to melt scrap steel as opposed to blast furnaces to melt iron), and the biggest recycler of scrap in North America. As of 2021, Nucor was the 14th-largest steel producer in the world.
